Human Composting becomes legal in sixth state, NY

January 1, 2023

New York has legalized a practice of decomposing human bodies, whereby a cadaver is placed inside a special vessel with other organic materials to aid in an approximately one-month composting period. Remains can be transferred to a more traditional urn, and the special vessels are then reused.
